What is Bigger Voice?

Everyone has a voice, but sometimes it's hard to get our little voices heard. We hope to make all the little voices count and make our politicians notice by doing the following:

  • Aggregate people's opinions on the politicians in our day to day news or blogs.
  • Give you the opportunity to support people who share similar values as you and let them be your bigger voices.

Would this really work? To be honest, we don’t know. We are just a couple of Silicon Valley techies who are doing this as a hobby. If you have ideas on what we can do to make things better, feel free to send them to support@biggervoices.com.

Any one can submit an article by click on the link on the upper right hand corner of the home page or the link on your personal profile. You just need to do two things:

  • Enter title, url, and a short description.
  • Search for politicians in the article and add to them to the article.

After that, it will be visible to everyone and people voice their opinions on the politicians of the article.

Am I voting on the article or the politicians?

A little bit of both. If you are a registered user, then you can click on the little and to indicate that whether the news article make you feel positive or negative about the politicians in that article so the vote is mostly about the politicians. However, the more vote the politicians in the article gets, the more popular the article become as well. If you feel the article is not useful, then just ignore it.

How do I pick someone to be my bigger voice and how many can I have?

When you visit people's profile, you can see their background, their opinions and their supporters. If you believe this person share similar values as you and you want them to represent you, you can click on the link on the upper right hand corner of their profile next to this check mark .

After you choose a person to be your bigger voice, he/she will show up in your own "My Voices" section. You can see the aggregated view of all the opinions on politicians expressed by all your bigger voices in the "My Voices" section. Hopefully you will take that into consideration when you are ready to vote. This will give your bigger voices some more leverage in case he/she needs to fight for certain causes that you believe in as well.

You can have 17 bigger voices. Yes, this is after extensive statistical studies so use them wisely.

Who are the politicians are on this site?

We have all current senators, congressmen, and governors. Ideally, we would like to have all the candidates who are running for these offices as well, but it takes some time to get all of the into our system. After that, it's whoever in the current news cycle. If there are people you want to see in our system, please send email to support@biggervoices.com.

I already have a political blog, how does this help my site?

If you already has a political blog, we hope we can provide some tools to complement your site. If your readers signed up to be your supporter, it will be easier to get your view across. Your readers might know which Presidental candidate you support, but they probably don't know which candidate you support in the 7th district of California and why.

Another thing we want to provide is the article widget you can put for your articles and your readers can voice their opinions on the candidates. Hopefully as we picked up more users for this site, we will be able to drive more traffics to your site as well.

By default we can only publish a one line story to your feed. If you just want to show the picture for a particular story, then you can change the "Story Option" for that item to "Short". If you want all stories from Bigger Voices to be in the "short" format, you will need to edit the application setting for Bigger Voices to allow us to always publish stories in the "short" format.
